The Incredible Advantages of SSD Hosting

When I bought my first hosting (a few years ago already) I couldn’t understand what they were talking about. What if VPS, dedicated servers, gigas transfer, FTP, SSD ... There could be no more terms I did not understand. And here you see me, looking like crazy information about web hosting and what the pros and cons of each web hosting. Now I laugh, but it was a headache.
That's why I want to help you and today in the post I want to talk about one of those rare acronyms: SSD. It is not that I want to complicate the existence, but in the moment of buying a web hosting it seems an essential requirement that they use these types of disks and I want you to understand why. Do you want to know what the hell SSDs are and why they are so important to your hosting?

What is an SSD?

The acronym SSD stands for Solid State Disk. In Spanish solid state disk.
I explain in 2 parts:

1. Disk

The word disk refers to a storage disk. To the site where our hosting puts and removes all the information. All photos, plugins and other stories are saved here.

2. Solid state

Here refers to how the disk is inside. In this case, you are comparing the interior of the SSD with the other type of storage disks that exist, the HDD. While inside the HDD there are moving parts, the SSD have built-in small memory chips inside. Integrated by solids that do not move.

SSD vs. HDD Disks
For you to understand well the advantages of using a solid state disk is important to you to see what are the differences with the HDD, which is what has been used in the hosting until now. In the header image you can see how the two types of disks are inside. The one on the left is an HDD and the one on the right is an SSD.
Look at the HDD.

There is a disk and a head. The head is the one that is in charge to write and to obtain each data that is in the disk. It could be compared with CD/DVD disk.

Instead, the internal system of an SSD is based on chips. There is nothing that moves.

Why is it important for your hosting to use SSDs?

Buying a web storage that does not use SSD would be crazy. There is no point of comparison in its performance against the HDD.

But since you like facts and not words, here are the four advantages of hosting your SSD drives.

1. Speed

Along with customer service, performance is the most important thing a hosting provider should offer. And for a fast hosting needs to use solid state disks. HDD systems are much slower. On the other hand, there are chips in SSD hosting. The information flows through them at an incredible speed.

2. Resistance

Any operation involving moving parts is damaged beforehand. The use itself causes the pieces to deteriorate little by little. In addition, HDDs are more sensitive to any blow or vibration.

3. Stability

In addition to wearing less, they need less power and energy to function. In other words, it is rare for a this type of disk to present problems and therefore your SSD hosting has less options to failures.

4. Security

Wait that I come with another word: the RAID system. This type of technology makes it harder for disk failures. While in the HDD the information is distributed on a single disk or two, the SSD is distributed among several chips.

The fact that the information is dosed in several places makes the system better manage an error that might arise. In other words, even less chance of your information suffering any damage with your SSD hosting! It is easy to see graphically. If a chair with 3 legs you remove one, it falls, however one with four not.
